The Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD) are responsible for creating and managing the policies on pesticide use in the UK.
This is a strictly regulated industry to ensure that no members of the public, any animals or the environment are put at risk from potentially harmful chemicals. All pesticides intended for use in the UK are assessed by the Government, but also by the Advisory Committee on Pesticides (ACP), an independent group of scientific experts. Companies must submit an extensive range of data from trials and research of the pesticides. |

This is a regular scene from non-organic farms, where farmers have to wear head-to-toe protection gear to prevent contact with the potentially hazardous chemicals.

This data must include the potential that the pesticide has on causing cancer and also whether it has the potential to affect the chances of human reproduction.
The Defra Expert Committee on Pesticide Residues in Food (PRiF) monitor pesticide residues found in food and drink. The committee submit a quarterly report, followed by an annual report which highlights any concerns that the committee may have about a certain pesticide and is followed up through a risk assessment which determines its future use.
