March was a busy month at Liv Organic and Natural Food Market. We've been gearing up to the full launch of our new organic, vegan pasta offering Casa de la Pasta. We were honoured to have The Lord Mayor Cllr Malcom Kennedy formally open it on 27 March. I was proud to gift the Lady Mayoress a very unique, vintage vinegar hamper with which she was delighted. I would like to thank everyone who attended including local businessmen from Bachich and Kasbah and KO Grill; Independent Liverpool; liverpool tv and the Echo.
The Lord Mayor's visit was timely in light of LCC recent announcement plans to Pedestrianise Bold Street. I must say I wholeheartedly welcome this move. When I was scouting potential sites for this store, what attracted me to Bold St was its bohemian vibe and thriving independent scene. It is a forward thinking, creative and inclusive area and this is reflected in its offering which is a welcome antidote to the homogeneity and commercialism of other parts of the city. That’s why I opened in 10,000 sq ft Art Deco venue and have revived this disused building. This is a once in a generation opportunity for Bold St to live up to its name and be bold, daring and original. I challenge the council to put health and sustainability at the heart of its vision. This year is the 10th Anniversary of the European Capital of Culture under the slogan “world in one city”. Bold St is the home to many global food retailers and fusion food restaurants so it makes sense to reaffirm the City’s commitment to make Bold St a truly global destination which I’m sure it can be. In many cities the independent high street is under threat so we need to cherish what we have on Bold St. When you look at the areas and initiatives in Liverpool where an independent retail business district has worked, it has always been through a grass roots approach: when local businesses have driven the agenda and been at the heart of the process. The council need to invest in the social and human assets of the street: its local businesses, shoppers, visitors and commuters. The scope of the project needs to consider issues that affect Bold St such as litter, homelessness and a lack of healthy food alternatives to the many fast food outlets. I would propose that part of the money goes towards addressing these issues. My recommendation is that the council invest in compost bins and education initiatives to encourage recycling and healthy eating. We also need community activities to support the homeless. We have been running initiatives in all these areas including the national Wake Up to Organic Campaign and funding the Homeless Games but more support is required in these areas. Looking forward to April, we're eagerly awaiting the next edition of Good Taste Magazine which will feature an editorial on Casa de la Pasta. There will be further in-store changes including greater nutritional information on key products and recommendations on levels of consumption to aid a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Additionally, we will be preparing to install a wood fire so we can cook bread and pizza in the most authentically Italian way. We will also be planning some of our educational and philanthropic campaigns: Wake Up to Organic and Homeless Games- more about them next month. As ever we at Liv Organic and Natural Market are grateful for your continued support. Please follow us on social media if you're not already. Yours in organic service Hassan

We are kicking Nutrition Month off with a go-to-guide on the world's most nutritious and healthiest foods. Hello. I’m Hassan, The Director of Liv Organic and Natural Market. We’ve had a great response to the store over the past 9 months but people still want to know more about our story. I want to tell that story through the people, places and plants that create the Liv Organic experience. Both I and my team put a lot of effort into serving our customers so I’ll be describing what we’re working on “behind the scenes”, including exclusive news on what’s coming up.
We're exciting that in recent times, more and more people are converting to the LIV way of life and are moving towards a zero-waste lifestyle, helping to prevent food wastage and also helping the environment. Although we're not fully there yet, we're all making huge steps forward to help purge the plastic and so we though that we would share with you some of our top tips for Upcycling Food & Packaging! We have just launched a brand new area inside the store that will delight our customers' culinary palate.
After having recently been chosen as one of the best places for vegan food in Liverpool, we have built up quite the reputation for healthy, vegan and vegetarian food. Our team behind LIV hopes that this new addition, which for the first time includes options for meat eaters, will add a whole new culinary dimension to the store, allowing customers to experience a fresh and organic twist on La Dolce Vita! For many vegans and animal-lovers, it can be difficult to strike a balance between looking good and being good.
Although the beauty industry projects an image that most desire, from having flawless makeup, shiny hair and a beautiful fragrance, much of the industry is built on a less than beautiful platform. When you envision what goes on behind the scenes, most don't imagine whale intestines, crushed insects and beaver genitals being used in the mixture of creams, makeup and fragrances. There is little wonder why so many are turning their back on the cosmetic industry and becoming huge followers of vegan cosmetic and beauty brands. At LIV, we have an exciting vegan fragrance brand coming to our beauty section, with some of your favourite fragrances made completely vegan and animal-friendly. Blog by JenPlant-Based Expert What is a plant based diet?
A plant based diet is a health conscious lifestyle based on plants. Food from the earth such as fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains. Eating a plant based diet means you don't consume any animal products. No milk, yogurt, cheese or eggs, and no chicken, fish, cow or any other animal. For some mothers-to-be, pregnancy can be far from the delicate and ethereal experience that they dreamt of having.
Whether it is the continuous hormone fluctuations or the uncomfortable physical changes, it can be a testing time for even the most patient of people. For those who suffer with morning sickness, the experience can leave them unable to perform even the most mundane of tasks. At a time when many wish to avoid the pharmaceutical route, morning sickness can leave many feeling helpless and can soon taint the whole experience of preparing to become a mother. However, there is a new, altogether more natural alternative that is soon to be available at LIV - meet Myrtle & Maude, your new best friend during pregnancy. The earliest concepts of organic farming began back in the mid 1800's, when the theory regarding mineral plant nutrition was developed by German Chemist, Justus von Liebig, who later became known as the founder of organic chemistry.
This organic movement just happened to coincide with time of the industrial revolution, when manmade power rocketed society into a new era of commercialism. Suddenly, it became possible to manipulate natural resources, allowing industries to satisfy this ever-growing consumer demand. It is with the humble beginnings of hopes for an easier life, that has today, created society's unhealthy appetite of a commercial culture that is driven by the demands of people, regardless of whether it is realistically achievable or morally correct.
